Levitation

Purpose:
  • To learn how Levitation is being used in the world of photography;
  • To make connections from levitation to real-world uses;
  • To create levitation photographs inspired by other amateur and professional photographers.

By looking at the examples, I got a clear idea of what levitation is and how the levitation photographs can be made convincing with the background and the position of the person. It helped to think about varieties of ideas with different perspectives. Also, it helped to think about the shadows and reflections for my photographs. I think the site of Pinterest was very helpful because it had many different levitation photographs and many of them used different perspective and were unique. Also, they were very convincing and looked realistic. It encouraged me to create a unique and creative levitation photographs as they were wonderful.

I took many photographs of different positions so I can levitate and I chose the one which I thought were best which helped me to create better photographs. I chose more than 1 background for one position so I can try different background and then choose the best one which worked really well for me. It took a lot of time and I wasn’t overwhelmed by it which helped me too. It was a success to create two totally different photographs of levitation as I had different positions. For one of them, I created a shadow and for the other the reflection in water which made them different. Creating shadows and reflections with the brightness of the background was a success too.

The big challenge was to create a levitation photograph which looks realistic and convincing with the background. I had a difficult time making the position of the person convincing with the background. I had the positions which I liked but they were not convincing with the background so I tried to do a couple of background for one position and see which one worked well. The other challenge I thought was to crop the person from the original photo for the background of the photo I was creating. Though I was zooming and trying not to include the other parts of the original photo there were few things which were from the background from the original photo so when I paste it on the background I was seeing those parts. Therefore, I went back again and erased and filled with the quick mask mode and paste again. This helped me create a better crop of the person and not including unnecessary parts. These tricks worked well and I was able to create levitation photographs in a creative way.
